PITA

Wouldn't wish this job on anyone. BSA 6 spring clutch cork insert replacement. The cork inserts in the clutch basket were worn down to the metal, I found out on t'interweb that You can cut them all out of wine corks, then sand them flat. I did this. I did use a block with the sandpaper after a while. To get the shape of the insert I cut around an old one for a template. I do not know if this will work, but I have the clutch in there now and it seems ok. I also filed the basket slots etc...

  1. My dad used to do this on his Norton Jubilee, apparently wine corks don't last very long. I have bought stuff from http://www.siestacorktiles.co.uk/ and they might have someting more durable.

  3. You can get the friction pieces from Rabers in San Jose, CA. The "corks" aren't really cork- They're pieces of brake lining material that are quite tough. You'll still have to trim them slightly to get them to fit the chainwheel but at least they'll last and work

  4. Update: The cork lasted for about 5 miles before getting oily, slipping and then burning up from the friction, leaving me with no clutch.
